Synopsis
Two workers sit in a pristine room, performing simple tasks in perfect unison: fill out paperwork, clean, reset the machine. The rules are clear. The expectations are not. At the end of each shift, one of them will be “replaced.” At first, it’s routine. Predictable. Controlled. Then instructions shift and become increasingly specific, then unstable, then impossible. What once felt like a job turns into a relentless evaluation with no clear criteria. As the pressure builds, the line between obedience and survival begins to blur. Every action matters. Every hesitation is noticed. Success is undefined, and failure is inevitable.
REPLACEMENTS is an original, dark absurdist play exploring obedience, labor, and a system that demands perfection and explains nothing. In a world where worth is measured by alignment and strict obedience, two workers must decide what matters most: following instructions or knowing when not to.
